virtguru.com...Tips, tricks, and tales from the virtualization trenches
I will use this site to document my findings, knowledge, challenges, and successes on one of my greatest passions in life which is enterprise grade scalable x86 virtualization. My areas of interest are in: (Server, Network, Storage, Desktop, and Application Virtualization) with a focus on Disaster Recovery , Business Continuity/Continuance, and Virtual Infrastructure Automation and Scalability. Who am I? Well I am a father and husband first and foremost beyond that the lines get grey fairly fast. I work as a Virtualization Systems Engineer for a prominent US Defense Contractor where much of my time is spent on any given day wearing multiple hats as many of us do. I am a VCP on VI3 and vSphere (first day vSphere tester out at VMworld 2009) as well as a RHCT. The majority of my work-week consists of being holed up in a research and development lab testing the latest and greatest technologies which is always challenging but more rewarding than anything. I consider myself lucky in the sense that I do not wake up despising or begrudgingly dragging myself into work as I truly enjoy what I do and understand that I am fortunate to be in this role. I am lucky to have had the opportunity to have been exposed to such a diverse set of technologies and skillsets in my current position. A good analogy that I always like to use is it is like 'drinking knowledge out of a firehose on full blast' :-D. Ok so my area of focus and expertise include of course Virtualization, Linux/Unix Systems Engineering, and Security although much of this blog will be focused solely on x86 Virtualization. Now a bit of a disclaimer I do not proclaim or pretend (only in my dreams) to be a 'guru' as in 'I know all the answers'. I am quite deep on many aspects of Virtualization but learn something new every day which is where I believe my love and passion for Virtualization comes from. There really is an excellent and vibrant Virtualization community out there that I rely upon and who are much better bloggers than myself. I will attempt to keep myself honest and come up with original content although at times I may re-post links to other great articles as a reference for myself. I look forward to taking on this challenge and engaging my potential readers as well as hopefully nudging others to take the plunge and document their findings in this world that is my virtual insanity. :-D
